Knothole is gorgeous today. There's honestly no other way to put it. Citizens are out and about, working in their gardens, playing with their children, or simply basking in the glow of the warm sun. So why is Amy Rose not enjoying herself to such a harmonious degree? Because when you're trying to win the heart of the handsomest hedgehog in town, you've got no time to waste!
She's walking without looking where she's going, as she's reading the same set of pages over and over again. Those passing by her might see that they're music sheets. Sonic played the guitar, so perhaps if she followed up with some instrumental talent of her own, they might wind up making beautiful music together! Unfortunately, her last few attempts - flute, violin, drums - had not worked out so well - finger got stuck, snapped the string, and royally angered the neighbors.
There was still the 'singing' option, yet it felt like she would just be copying Mina Mongoose. And no one's voice in Knothole could compare to Mina! She grumbled, sticking out her upper lip in frustration as she looked the notes over again. Why was true love so hard?

He clapped his hands together, raising himself on his tip-toes midsentence for emphasis. "All right! First things first! You wanna play that thing, you've gotta tune it." Sonic tapped the top of the guitar with his finger. "These l'il knobs there at the top are what you use to do that. Each knob is gonna tune a string. So try playin' the string first, messin' with the knob, and then seein' how it sounds after."
He'd adjusted the pegs at the top of the guitar to make sure it would certainly be out of tune.

She slowly shifted around, making sure she wouldn't drop the 'delicate' instrument as she started experimenting. She gently plucked one string - almost wincing at how bad it came out - and just as gently began to turn a knob. Ever precision was carefully slow, as to not damage anything.

Planning ahead; This was why teaching wasn't his forte.
"Hold up for a sec." The hedgehog bolted off in his signature blur of blue and returned seconds later with a blue guitar strap. "Here we go! This'll help so you don't have to worry 'bout holding it or dropping it. Should make it easier to play too. " There were clips at the top and the bottom of the instrument to attach it to. Sonic took the liberty of attaching it with a couple swift snaps.

"That's much better." She agreed, now plucking and twisting with confidence. "For a moment there, I thought I'd break it... That'd be the worst! But don't you worry... I'm going to treat this like I would my own child." Hint hint. "Pluck... and twist... pluck..."

Sonic plopped down at the base of the tree he'd perched by earlier and laced his fingers behind his head. Maybe he'd try kicking back and taking a snooze in the meantime since he'd went and loaned off the only thing that was keeping him occupied. He yawned.
Man, Why wasn't there some kind of adventuring to do in the city?

She then plopped herself right next to him, continuing to pluck and twist to her heart's content. "So Sonic." She quickly followed up, knowing those 'naptime eyes'. "Who taught you how to play?"
no subject
"Me? I taught myself just by playin' around on my own time." Sonic reached over, and cooly twisted on of the knobs on the guitar back into it's perfect placement. At least that way the note she kept playing would be in tune.
"There's no way to practice with a teacher when you're out savin' the world and bustin' up robots." He shrugged, "Besides. I'm not exactly the 'sit in the classroom and take lessons' type."

"I think that's pretty cool." Amy replied once he was finished, continuing to smile and admire him. "I mean, not everyone can just know how to play. And... that must have took some patience." She couldn't help herself, chuckling again. "You have to admit, you and patience aren't exactly best friends.'

... Suddenly she realized she'd just invited temptation. Amy quickly began plucking all the faster, as if to drown out her previous statement. "Not that you should... I mean... Knothole is so much more fun when you're around!"

If he wanted to be out of the city, he'd be gone fast than she could blink an eye. Sonic was notorious for making his own brand of entertainment, but he was supposed to be watching out for the city while the other Freedom Fighters were off doing other tasks. Without him to watch the city then who knew what Eggman would pull.
But he couldn't help but smile as Amy provided him with a possible out. If he could get her to keep an eye out then he could find something else to do outside the city! The hedgehog perked right up at her words, "Now that you mention it, how 'bout you give me a hand with a top secret Freedom Fighter mission?"

"I'd love to!" She squealed, wondering what kind of plan this was. "I get it now... you were just waiting around until you found the right partner, huh?" Oh, her clever boy. Maybe they'd fight some robots, and go undercover, and in the end he'd save her and remark what an amazing fighter she was, cue sunset and romance.

"All you gotta do is keep an eye out and let me know if you see robots or anything weird." Sonic stood up and nodded to the nearby forest, "I'm gonna check outside the city."

Wait a minute.
She narrowed her eyes, sensing she was about to get tossed aside like old trash. "Sonic, is this a solo mission...?"

"SOOOONIIIC!"
She stood up to give him a good whallop - but totally forgot she was wearing the guitar. She yelped as the weight yanked her backwards, sending her to the ground. If he wanted to get away - with his skull intact - now would be a good time.

Besides, there was too much exploring to do!
